Br. Miguel Fernandes Ribeiro, a Marist Brother for 14 years, currently serves as Director of Identity, Mission, and Vocations of the Marist Province of Brasil Centro-Sul and as Provincial Councillor. He participates in committees within UMBRASIL and the South America Region, and collaborates with the Institute in coordinating the Global Marist Youth Network alongside the Secretariat for Education and Evangelization. Born in the countryside of Paraná, he is the eldest of four children of Maria Nair and Nelson. His connection with the Marist Institute began 29 years ago when his family moved to a small farm belonging to the Marist Brothers in Doutor Camargo, Paraná. There, he met Brothers Alfredo, Pedro, and Virgílio, whose witness was decisive in awakening his vocation. He entered the formation house in Jaraguá do Sul (SC) in 2008, began the Postulancy in Londrina (PR) the following year, and in 2010 undertook the Novitiate in Campinas (SP) and Passo Fundo (RS), with his novitiate placement in Santa Maria (RS). On December 8, 2011, in Passo Fundo, he professed his first vows. He served at the Marist Social and Educational Unit of São José (SC) in pastoral ministry and as a Religious Education teacher; later, he worked for two years in the pastoral ministry of Colégio Marista Cascavel (PR), before serving as its Administrative Coordinator for four years. On May 19, 2018, in his hometown of Doutor Camargo, he professed perpetual vows. In 2020, he took part in a formative experience for young Brothers in Guatemala and began his mission in the Province’s Identity, Mission, and Vocations area, assuming its leadership in 2022. He holds degrees in Theology (PUCPR) and Business Administration (Centro Universitário FAG), a postgraduate qualification in School Management (Instituto Rhema), and training for councillors (PUCPR).
