Br. José de Assis Elias de Brito is originally from the state of Paraíba, in northeastern Brazil, and a former student of Colégio Marista Pio X. He holds degrees in Pedagogy from the Catholic University of Brasília and in Theology from the Instituto Santo Tomás de Aquino. He has specialized in Educational Management and Theology of Religious Life, and has completed continuing formation in catechetics, religious education, Mariology, and school pastoral ministry. He has served as a catechist, community superior, teacher, pastoral and pedagogical coordinator, and principal of Marist schools in Taguatinga and Natal. He coordinated the areas of Consecrated Life, Laity, and Mission at the União Marista do Brasil, and took part in various networks and administrative boards. He is currently the Provincial Superior of the Marist Province of Brasil Centro-Norte, now in his second term, and president of the institutions linked to the province. He also serves as provincial coordinator of the America Sur Region and the American Conference of Provincials and is a member of councils related to Catholic education and the Marist mission in Brazil.
