Br. Sunanda Alwis was born on October 28, 1956, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and made his first religious profession in 1976 and final vows in 1984. An alumnus of Maris Stella College in Negombo, he earned a Master’s degree in Architecture specializing in Conservation. After his final vows, he was sent to Pakistan for two and a half years. Upon returning to Sri Lanka, he worked as a vocation promoter and teacher in Marist schools. He served as Provincial of Sri Lanka and Pakistan (1994–2001) and was a staff member at the Manziana Renewal Centre (2001–2004). In 2007, he was appointed the first Provincial of the South Asia Province. He participated as a delegate at the 19th and 21st General Chapters. He has been principal of Maris Stella College (2005–2017 and since 2022) and St. Joseph’s College in Nugegoda (2018–2022).
