Br. Raphael Fakaia was born on February 19, 1980, in a remote village in the Solomon Islands and is the eldest of eight siblings. He completed his primary and secondary education in local Catholic schools. In 2003, he joined the Marist Brothers’ formation program and, after his novitiate in Fiji, took his first religious vows. He later pursued post-novitiate studies at MAPAC in the Philippines, earning a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, majoring in Religious Studies. He has served as a teacher, administrator, and project manager in Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, and abroad. In 2014, he founded a high school on his home island to provide access to education for students in remote communities. On August 15, 2023, he made his perpetual profession as a Marist Brother. In 2024, he participated in a ten-month international formation program in Manziana, Rome. He is currently serving as a Marist formator in the postulancy house in Timor Leste, within the Star of the Sea Province.
