Br. Darren Burge, FMS, grew up in Sydney, Australia, and attended Marist Brothers North Sydney. After completing teacher training, he entered the novitiate in 1987. For most of his ministry, he has been involved in secondary education, holding various leadership roles. Between 2004 and 2006, he served as Province Vocations Coordinator for Sydney, which allowed him to engage deeply with Marist youth ministry among young adults and to understand the Province’s diverse ministries. In 2008, he became Principal of The John Berne School in Lewisham, Sydney’s inner west, working primarily with children unable to thrive in mainstream education. During this time, he completed a Master of Arts in Theology and formal training in spiritual accompaniment, which have supported his formation work. Retreat ministry and spiritual formation remain enriching aspects of his service. From September 2013 until 2018, he was Principal of St Augustine’s College, a boarding school in Cairns, Queensland. Since 2003, he has served multiple terms on the Provincial Council, before becoming Vice Provincial in 2019. In 2025, in addition to his Vice Provincial duties, he was appointed Leader of the Marist Association of St Marcellin Champagnat in Australia. He is currently a member of the Mascot community in Sydney. He participated in the Preparatory, Interim, and Facilitation Commissions of the last General Chapter in Colombia, an experience he found enriching.
