Br. Ken McDonald was born in 1959 in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. He completed his primary education at the local parish school run by the Sisters of Charity and his secondary education with the Marist Brothers. He entered the Institute and made his first profession in 1980 in Mittagong and his perpetual profession in 1985 in Papua New Guinea. His academic formation includes studies in History and Master’s degrees in Religious Education and Counselling. In 1984, he was assigned to Papua New Guinea, where he lived and worked for 30 years as a teacher, school principal, and community animator. He also worked in Bougainville, supporting children and young people affected by civil war. From 2005 to 2015, he was Superior of the District of Melanesia, and afterwards, Vice-Provincial of Australia. He was elected General Councillor on 10 October 2017. He is currently Vicar General of the Institute, a role he assumed on 6 February 2025, by appointment of the Superior General and his Council. Br. Ken is also the coordinator of the Preparatory Commission for the 23rd General Chapter.
