Br. Réal Sauvageau was born on June 18, 1949, in Champlain, Quebec, Canada. He is the tenth of twelve siblings in a large family. He entered the Marist Institute and made his first religious profession on August 15, 1968. After earning a degree in science and a teaching diploma, he dedicated about fifteen years to teaching mathematics in one of the Marist schools in Quebec. In 1996, he was invited to take part in a formators’ course organized by the congregation in Valpré, France. Two years later, he began a missionary assignment in Haiti, where he accompanied postulants from 1998 to 2004. Upon returning to Canada, he completed a master’s degree in counseling. From 2007 to 2016, he was part of the animation team for Marist brothers and laypeople in Quebec, actively participating in various inter-American meetings and the 2014 Mission Assembly in Nairobi. In 2016, following an invitation from Br. Emili Turu, he joined the first Lavalla200> group and was assigned to the novitiate formation community in Tudella, Sri Lanka, where he served until 2024. That same year, he returned briefly to Quebec for health-related matters, and in February 2025 he was sent to Vietnam, where he currently serves in accompaniment and formation.
