Br. Jacobo Song Chul-Seob was born on December 27, 1958, in Goheung-gun, South Korea, where the Korean Space Center is located. He joined the Marist Brothers in February 1985, making his first vows in January 1988 at the Suwon Novitiate and his perpetual profession in August 1996 at the Marist Education Center in Seoul. From 1999 to 2004, he served as Korea District Councilor and represented the Korea District at the 20th General Chapter in 2001. Between 2007 and 2013, he was on the Provincial Council of the East Asia Province and coordinated the Korea Sector. In 2014, he completed the Formators Course in Rome and served at the Novitiate in the Philippines from 2015 to 2016. In 2017, he took responsibility for postulants and returned to Korea. He studied at MAC in Manila (1992–1995), made his perpetual vows upon returning to Korea, and earned a Master’s in Social Work from Jesuit University (1996–1998), gaining his professional license. After his first profession, he worked at Young-ju Damian Health Center (1988–1990), supporting leprosy patients and their children. From 1999 to 2003, he ministered at the Marist Technical Institute, and from 2004 to 2009, directed the Marist Home for the Disabled. Re-elected in 2022 to the Provincial Council of the East Asia Province, he currently coordinates the Korea/Japan Sector.
