Br. José Gerardo Rivera Hernández was born on August 24, 1991, in San Salvador, El Salvador. He was a Marist student from a young age, first at Colegio Marista San Alfonso and later at Liceo Salvadoreño. He holds a degree in Modern Languages with a specialization in teaching from the University of El Salvador, as well as a Master's degree in Education. He worked as an English teacher from 2012 to 2017. In 2017, he began his formation as a Marist Brother, going through the stages of aspirancy, postulancy (2018–2019), and novitiate (2020–2021). During his initial formation, he began his studies in Theology, which he completed in 2025. He has carried out his mission at Escuela Marista and the Centro Escolar Hermano Moisés Cisneros. He currently serves as Pastoral Coordinator at Liceo Guatemala. He sees himself as a close, joyful, and enthusiastic Brother, committed to living and sharing the charism of Marcellin in his daily encounters.
